Overweight is a reality in Brazil
Obesity is the fastest growing nutritional problem in the population in recent years. According to the latest National Health Survey (PNS), carried out by the IBGE in partnership with the Ministry of Health, almost 601% of Brazilians are overweight. When it comes to waist size, 37.71% of Brazilians have an increased waist circumference, which increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Poor eating habits and high sugar consumption trigger overweight and obesity problems.
Weight reduction is achieved by following a low-calorie diet, with adequate amounts of the main nutrients (proteins, minerals and vitamins), a low intake of fats and carbohydrates and a higher intake of fiber. According to Dr. Rosana Perim Costa, nutrition manager at Hcor in São Paulo, if this intervention fails, drug treatment may be indicated, acting as an adjunct to non-drug therapy.
"There are various combinations of drugs that act on the central nervous system. Recent research results show that hydroxycitric acid (HCA), extracted from the rind of the citrus fruit garcinia cambogia, when administered before meals can lead to weight loss in obese individuals, significantly reducing food intake by increasing satiety."
