Biolab, one of Brazil's largest pharmaceutical companies, was present at Conexão Farma, an initiative of Abradilan (Brazilian Association of Distribution and Logistics of Pharmaceutical Products), represented by its brands Biolab Farmacêutica and Biolab Genéricos. The company's managing partner, Cleiton de Castro Marques, was a guest on the panel "The New Era of Healthcare: Connecting Industry, Retail and Distribution", alongside other representatives from the sector.

"Throughout my career in the pharmaceutical sector, I've always stressed that we need to think beyond manufacturing medicines. Our commitment is to be present throughout the chain, combining quality, technological innovation and the trust of doctors and pharmacists. Today, we know that adherence to treatment is one of the major problems in healthcare, because it hinders the process of patient improvement, has the potential to increase the complexity of cases, and consequently affects people's quality of life. In this case, pharmacists are an important ally who, using the right tools, can follow up more closely, building an important bond with patients," explained Cleiton de Castro Marques.

The executive pointed out that the health sector is one of those that invests the most in training professionals and the industry is a great partner for retailers. "Pharmacists are at the end of the chain, listening to consumers and that's why they need to be valued more and more. Encouraging the provision of services by this professional is advantageous for everyone, especially patients, who could benefit from an efficient and agile outcome in primary care, thus reducing demand in emergency rooms, which would have more availability for highly complex cases."

Another important moment in the debate dealt with the rapid ageing of the Brazilian population and how the entire health chain needs to be ready for this scenario. "We urgently need to think about ways of serving this audience. Transforming physical retail into a preventive diagnostic center not only improves quality of life, but also reduces health costs. We've also been talking a lot about the Single Health Record, in which doctors and pharmacists are able to keep track of the patient's history and increasingly work towards assertive diagnoses and treatments. This is a project that could change the reality of Brazilian healthcare. Discussions like these are extremely important for raising the level of service we offer the population, so that everyone has their health needs met quickly and safely," Cleiton concluded.
