The University of São Paulo (USP), with the support of Embrapii (Brazilian Company for Industrial Research and Innovation), and the Federal University of São João del-Rei (UFSJ) are Biolab Farmacêutica's new partners in the field of scientific innovation, with a focus on accelerating the development of innovative treatments.
"This is one of the pillars we believe in: joining forces to promote the well-being of the population is a priority action at Biolab. The product development journey is a long one, with countless stages before a drug is ready for commercialization, but we are certain that this is an effective way of continuing to bring innovation and competitiveness to the national pharmaceutical industry" says Marco Aurélio Silva, Biolab's Vice President of Innovation and Quality.
UFSJ is recognized in both national and international academic circles. According to the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) ranking released in 2024, the institution is among the 6.3% best in the world.
On the other side, USP and its 42 teaching and research units cover various areas of knowledge, making a significant contribution to the country's scientific and cultural development. In this partnership, we highlight the support of Embrapii, which is a social organization linked to the ministries of Science, Technology and Innovation; Education; Health; and Economy.
Its work encourages cooperation between research institutions and companies, contributing to innovation in Brazilian industry. This collaboration not only strengthens research and innovation, but also positions Brazil as a leading player on the global technological and industrial development stage.
Biolab already has experience in successful partnerships, such as the development of an antiemetic in collaboration with the University of São Paulo (USP). Another project was carried out in conjunction with the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), resulting in Photoprot®, a photoprotector that uses nanotechnology in its formula.
"It's great to be close to institutions that are recognized for their high-quality work in academia. The public-private partnership is an important relationship for facilitating the sharing of knowledge, technologies and optimizing the use of resources. In Biolab's history, innovation is the basis of everything we have done so far. And for the future, we know that in order to remain innovative, we need to look at innovation on different fronts, and this is an ongoing exercise" says Marco Aurélio.
